More experimenting with Photoshop

I’ve already started experimenting with both Photoshop and GIMP and learnt quite a bit about paths, colouring, filters and masks and  I have got to know my way around the tool box now. For my piece in exercise 5 I used Photoshop and GIMP to colour my entire piece, unfortunately I hadn’t intended on using shadows on this piece of work or highlights so I wasn’t sure how to go about doing this. I  thought to myself that this was something I need to teach myself. I found  a piece from an old sketch book that I had half-finished, it’s a drawing of a knight from a dream I had. I couldn’t fully remember what he looked like so I guess that’s why I left it unfinished. Anyway I  decided to colour this using Photoshop and I experimented with layers, masks, gaussion blur and generally played around with trying to create that metal effect as well as creating shaded areas. Below is my attempt. I was pretty pleased with it, all be it, it did take me a few hours, need to speed this process up.

I’ve been fooling around with some of the features Corel offers too. What did we ever do before we had computers? Think of the possibilities!
